Reel Seats

Below, you will find our suggestions for reel seats.  They are grouped according to the various types of rods we build.  The wood used for inserts in these reel seats is representative only.  Please refer to our Reel Seat Wood page for a full description of available insert woods. We do offer a number of custom reel seat options in addition to those below; these are profiled on our Custom Reel Seat page.

We utilize reel seats made from both nickel silver and aluminum on trout rods. Nickel silver hardware has a classic look and appeal and seats in this material are available in a slide band version and in two diameters (0.645 and 0.720 OD) in a screw, up-lock style. Trout seats using aluminum hardware are available in both black and titanium colors and are lighter in weight than nickel silver. They are available in two diameters (0.645 and 0.720 OD) in a screw, up-lock style.

The Steehead reel seat hardware we use is available in two diameters (0.705 and 0.750 OD) in polished duronze (an attractive gold color) as well as nickel and black nickel platings. For those interested in increased durability, the nickel plating is very hard and durable.

The Saltwater and Warmwater reel seat hardware we use is available in both solid titanium and aluminum. We often use a reel seat made solid titanium on rods destined for use in saltwater environments as titanium is corrosion free. In aluminum we use two styles of seats, one style with the slide band keyed to the body (RFTS) and an all aluminum version of one of the seats we use on Steelhead and Spey rods (the LC25).

The Spey reel seat hardware we use is available in two diameters (0.750 and 0.812 OD) in polished duronze (an attractive gold color) as well as nickel and black nickel platings. For those interested in increased durability, the nickel plating is very hard and durable.

For larger fly rods that may require fighting butts or butt caps (like Steelhead or Spey rods) we always turn the butt out of wood matching that used for the reel seat.  Please refer to our Handles page for examples.  As these reel seats are our suggestions only we are happy to entertain the use of other seats.  Our Links page  allows you to examine other options made by reel seat manufacturers if you so choose.  Enjoy!
